Compare a player's free throw % to their performance in the game

Instructions

  1. Pick a player in today's game. How many free throws has he made? Attempted?
  2. Look up your selected player's season free throw percentage and input that value, along with your selected player's name, on this page.
  3. Now, click the "Shoot your shot!" button and take the same number of free throws as your selected player has taken in tonight's game.
  4. Do you make more, less or the same number of shots as your selected player made tonight?
  5. Overtime Question - Click the "Reset history" button and repeat this process several times. Do you tend to shoot free throws better, the same or worse than how your selected player?
Solution

It's entirely likely for you to do better, the same or worse than your selected player. Let's consider a fair coin that flips heads 50% of the time. If you flip 10 times, only occasionally will you get exactly 5. You'll often get 4 to 6 heads and even more frequently get 3 to 8 heads.
